North Texas Wildfires Recovery: Help Ranchers Rebuild

North Texas Wildfires Recovery: Help Ranchers Rebuild

The Ross Fire has devastated ranchland across Palo Pinto and Jack counties, leaving farmers, ranchers, and rural communities to face a long, difficult recovery.

As of August 27, the wildfire had burned approximately 85,000 acres and was only 21% contained. Homes, agricultural structures, pastures, fencing, hay supplies, and livestock have all been threatened or lost. Although firefighters continue working to contain the blaze, the impact on North Texas families will endure long after the flames are extinguished.

For Doug Jackson, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Operation Airdrop, the mission carries a deeply personal connection. This is Jackson’s hometown, and the people affected by the Ross Fire include families, ranchers, and neighbors from the community that helped shape his life.

“This is not a distant disaster to me—this is home,” Jackson said. “These are the roads I know, the ranches I grew up around, and the people who make this community what it is. Seeing so much land and so many livelihoods devastated by fire is heartbreaking, but I also know the strength of the people who live here. They will rebuild. Our responsibility now is to stand beside them and make sure they have the resources to begin.”

The Immediate Need

Operation Airdrop is mobilizing to support farmers and ranchers affected by this disaster. Right now, the most urgent needs are:

  • Hay
  • Animal feed
  • Fence posts, wire, and other fencing materials

For ranchers who have lost grazing land and stored hay, providing feed is essential to keeping surviving livestock alive. Replacing miles of damaged or destroyed fencing will also be critical to securing animals and helping agricultural operations begin rebuilding.

As recovery assessments continue, the list of needed supplies may expand. Operation Airdrop will remain in contact with local officials, community partners, and those directly affected to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most.
