When Hurricane Ian devastated Florida’s Gulf Coast in 2022, entire communities were left isolated as bridges collapsed and roads washed away. Operation Airdrop quickly mobilized its network of volunteer pilots and aircraft to deliver life-saving supplies into the hardest-hit regions, including Pine Island and Sanibel, areas that were completely cut off from ground access.
Launching from bases in Naples and Punta Gorda, volunteer pilots flew thousands of pounds of food, water, diapers, baby formula, batteries, and generator fuel into small airports and temporary drop zones. Working alongside local partners and organizations such as Operation BBQ Relief, they ensured that families received meals and critical essentials within hours, not days.
Operation Airdrop during its Hurricane Ian mission, demonstrating the vital role general aviation plays in disaster response. Through the dedication of pilots, ground crews, and community volunteers, Operation Airdrop once again proved that when disaster strikes, hope can still take flight.
