Operation Airdrop is a national disaster-relief nonprofit that mobilizes private pilots and volunteers to deliver critical supplies by air to communities affected by natural disasters. When floods, wildfires, hurricanes, or other catastrophes render ground transportation unreliable or inaccessible, we take to the skies. Through an expansive volunteer network of licensed pilots, ground support, and logistics professionals, Operation Airdrop ensures that emergency aid reaches the most isolated and hardest-hit communities, often within hours of a disaster.

We are not just an organization. We are an emergency response movement powered by aviation and compassion. Our aircraft become lifelines, carrying clean water, baby formula, medical kits, and other essential supplies directly into disaster zones, landing on grass fields, local airports, or rural strips that other vehicles can’t reach.

Our team monitors disaster zones closely and works with local authorities, community centers, and relief organizations to identify areas in the most immediate need. We focus on locations that are cut off from traditional supply lines due to road closures or extreme conditions.

Everyone plays a role in our mission. Whether you’re in the cockpit or on the ground, there’s a place for you. Our volunteers include:

  • Licensed pilots with access to aircraft, willing to fly into affected areas.
  • Ground crews who load, unload, and sort cargo at airports.
  • Dispatch and Communications Support who keep missions coordinated and safe.
  • Logistics Coordinators who organize supply needs, manifests, and routes.
  • Fundraisers, marketers, and media professionals who help us tell our story.

You do not need to fly to be part of our mission. If you care about making a difference and can contribute your time or talent, you’re welcome in our hangar.

There are several ways to get involved:

  • Volunteer: We need both on-the-ground volunteers and pilots with aircraft.

  • Donate: We accept donations of supplies (only during active missions) and funds (year-round) to support our missions.

  • Spread the Word: Share our mission with your networks to raise awareness and support when we activate.

Our missions focus on lightweight, high-impact, life-sustaining supplies. These include:

  • Clean drinking water in sealed packets or small containers
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Diapers, baby formula, and infant care items
  • Medications, first-aid supplies, and hygiene kits
  • Blankets, tarps, and emergency shelter gear
  • Flashlights, batteries, and solar chargers

Each plane is packed to optimize payload weight and space, allowing us to land, unload, and depart quickly for the next run. Ground teams ensure supplies are distributed efficiently upon arrival.

Yes, financial donations are crucial to supporting our operations. They help cover operational costs,, purchase additional supplies, provide aid to victims, housing volunteers, and other logistics. You can make a donation securely through our Donate Link.

We are committed to transparency and regularly update our supporters on the progress of our missions. We do our best to share stories of the communities' gratitude along with our mission numbers. Follow us on social media to see the impact they are making in affected communities.

Absolutely. Operation Airdrop is a fully registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized by the IRS. All donations are tax-deductible, and we are committed to full financial transparency. Our funding comes from individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundation grants, and in-kind contributions of supplies or services.

Each year, we publish impact reports and partner statements to maintain the trust of our growing community of supporters.

The moment a disaster strikes, our team activates. Here’s how we operate:

  1. Assessment Phase: We collect intelligence from local officials, first responders, and partner organizations.
  2. Volunteer Mobilization: Pilots and volunteers are notified through our portal and social platforms.
  3. Flight Planning: Routes are mapped based on airport availability, weather, and terrain.
  4. Cargo Management: Supply manifests are prepared and organized by priority and weight.
  5. Air Ops Launch: Crews execute missions with continuous communication among ground control, dispatch, and local partners.

It’s a carefully orchestrated process built on aviation precision and humanitarian urgency. Coordination centers ensure everything moves quickly and safely.

Once roads and traditional supply routes are accessible, we transition away from air operations and hand over recovery efforts to local authorities and larger relief organizations. Our mission focuses on providing airborne relief to communities cut off from critical supplies in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Typically, our operations last about a week, during which we deliver lifesaving supplies until local authorities and rescue efforts can access the area by road. We continue to monitor recovery progress and provide support as needed, but our core mission is rapid, airborne response.

Unfortunately we don’t have the ability to do donation pickups. We’re so honored you thought of us regardless.

While hurricanes are a common focus due to their widespread and devastating impact, Operation Airdrop responds to any large-scale natural disaster. This includes floods, wildfires, freezes, tornadoes, and other emergencies where communities are cut off from essential supplies.

While our roots are in Texas, Operation Airdrop has responded to disasters across the continental United States, Jamaica, and as far North as Western Alaska. From the hurricane-battered shores of the Carolinas and Florida to tornado-hit rural areas in the Midwest and wildfire zones in the West, we respond wherever disaster strikes.

We establish temporary air hubs near affected regions, often within 24–48 hours of a catastrophe. In partnership with local partners, we map drop zones, mission corridors, and loading sites, enabling us to bypass road closures, flooded highways, and overwhelmed local infrastructure.

Speed. Precision. Accessibility. While traditional relief groups must navigate ground routes that are often blocked, our aircraft fly above the chaos and land where trucks can’t reach. We’re often the first wave of relief, delivering hope and essential goods directly to devastated communities.

We specialize in “week one” disaster response — the critical window before traditional aid can fully mobilize. Our strength is our nimbleness. A single aircraft can deliver hundreds of pounds of supplies to rural airports, private strips, or agricultural fields in a fraction of the time it takes a convoy to arrive. This enables us to fill urgent gaps in the early days of a crisis — when every minute counts.

There are several ways to support our mission.

  • Fly With Us – Licensed pilots with aircraft can join flight operations
  • Volunteer – Help with logistics, staging, and coordination
  • Donate – Provide financial support year-round

No. Our pilots are volunteers. They fly on their own time, using their own fuel and planes, often stepping away from their daily lives to respond within hours. What sets Operation Airdrop apart is our commitment to pure volunteerism. No salaries. No contracts. Just a deep desire to help.

The stories we hear from our pilots are profound testaments to the power of human kindness and a reminder that purpose often outweighs personal cost. This model also enables us to deploy rapidly, without layers of bureaucracy or cost delays.

FAA has clarified the reimbursement of fuel expenses and generally organizations are not allowed to reimburse unless granted specific waiver by the FAA. The aircarealliance.org website does a great job of compiling all of the legal issues involved with this.

Disasters move fast. So do we. Operation Airdrop is more than an organization; it’s a movement of aviation-powered compassion. In every mission, we see the strength of volunteers, the resolve of pilots, and the resilience of communities working together.

Whether you’re a seasoned aviator, a generous donor, or a concerned citizen ready to help, there’s a place for you in this mission.

Join us. Support us. Fly with us. Together, we deliver hope, one flight at a time.
