Catastrophic Flooding Devastates Western Alaska, Emergency Airlift of Food and Supplies Underway

October 19, 2025 – Anchorage, Alaska — In the early hours of Sunday, October 12, the remnants of Typhoon Halong brought unprecedented flooding to Western Alaska’s Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, leaving a humanitarian crisis in its wake. Nearly 50 villages have been impacted, and more than 1,500 Alaskans are now displaced, many without access to shelter, food, or clean water.

The city of Bethel has become a central staging ground for relief, but local shelters and resources are overwhelmed. The need for immediate aid is critical.

In response, Operation Airdrop, in partnership with the Food Bank of Alaska, is launching a direct relief mission to fly 25,000 pounds of emergency food and supplies from Anchorage to Bethel aboard a 737 cargo plane. This urgent mission will ensure that essential resources reach families and emergency response teams on the ground.

We need your help to make this mission possible.

“This is a crisis that demands immediate action,” said Russ Keith, Executive Director for Operation Airdrop. “Alaskans are resilient, but no one should face this kind of devastation alone. Every dollar helps us get food and support to families who have lost everything.”

Your donation today can help bring hope and critical aid to Western Alaska.
